I recently attended a fabulous cocktail reception hosted by the California Strawberry Commission and I learned things I never knew about these amazing fruits. Actually, did you know strawberries are not a fruit? They are actually considered to be in the ROSE family. Yes Roses, like the flower! Those seeds that they have on them, which there are about 200 on every strawberry, are actually considered to be like thorns. Who knew?! I told you I learned a lot.I also learned that you should keep your strawberries not in the coldest part of the fridge and you shouldn’t wash them until you are going to eat them. I also learned that California strawberries are grown on 23,000 acres of California Farms each year. So a lot of America’s strawberries come from California!
They also had lots of amazing foods and recipes made with strawberries to try!
These mini Strawberry Short Cake Bites were my favorite!
They were delicious as were Strawberry Mojitos! I love Mojitos and it’s my favorite drink, being a Cuban and all. I’ve had a strawberry Mojito before, but it never tasted as good as the one in the picture below!
They even had great centerpieces that used strawberries, roses, and flowers on the tables. These would make a great centerpieces at a wedding or just in general if you’re looking for a natural easy centerpiece. These would be super easy to make!
I can go on and on about how much I loved the food and learning about California Strawberries, but I’ll simply leave you with one last favorite recipe of mine that I learned about at the event and here is the recipe for it below that you can try it for yourself!
