Last week, prior to my nasty accident at work I had the amazing opportunity to visit the ABC comedy series Last Man Standing that stars actor Tim Allen (aka the Voice of Buzz LightYear and of Home Improvement Fame) as Mike Baxter, a man who’s essentially forced into vlogging as part of his job as a marketing director. He’s fighting to hold onto his manhood in his female-dominated world that is filled with 3 daughters, one of which has her own child!
The show also stars Nancy Travis as his wife and the 3 daughters are played by Alexandra Krosney, the 20-year-old daughter who’s raising her child at home with the parents, Molly Ephraim as the ditsy and semi shallow fashion obsessed middle child, and the youngest tom boyish daughter played by Kaitlyn Dever! At last but not least it also stars the amazing Hector Elizondo as Mike’s Boss and Christoph Sanders as the absent minded guy Mike takes under his wing!
I and a few other great bloggers got the great opportunity visit to the set and ask the cast a few questions.
And can I say this set was beautiful. Whenever we finally move I would love to design my place after their home. I loved the furniture and coloring to the house sets. I would move in!
I love that couch! And this dinning room below.
And this apartment set was awesome as well!
Here is some of what was mentioned in our question and answer session with the cast!
Nancy Travis on new characters coming into the show:
Nancy Travis: It’s difficult for people to come work on our show because they have to come into a working dynamic and rhythm that we already have going. But it’s a welcome and good change. I don’t like that I get less screen time though. (Jokingly said)
Tim Allen on how much of his character on show reflects who he is in real life?
I adore these girls. It’s television and I tend to get attached very quickly. I like this life. I like this house. I like this job. It’s just like Home Improvement. I really adored those boys, and now I’ve got the best of both worlds, which was the idea.
Tim Allen on being a good parent!
I always feel like I’m coming up a little short. I’m on the road for my shows in Vegas. I’m not there, I don’t engage, I don’t focus enough. I do the best I can, and just hope I don’t get arrested.
Tim Allen on how his Vlogging on the Show and his journal on his personal site are similar.
They aren’t similar at all. What I do on my site is very serious and person. What’s done on the show is scripted and not real. I try to be very personal on my site. On the show the character does do his video blogging but he uses it for a different means.
Hector Elizondo and Tim Allen on technology.
HECTOR: I have a flip phone with a piece of tape so I can find it easily in my car! (He shows us his simple phone)
Allen: I’ve done the Android and iPhones and I’ve gone so far that I’m now back to a flip-phone. It’s funny, I’ve come full circle! You can buy antique flip-phones on ebay. A lot of us collect them. They’re considered antiques.
Tim Allen on loving to work with women and having only Daughters in real life.
I love women. I actually prefer girls, as a parent, because they disappoint at a different age. They go through that, “Dad’s an idiot,” which lasted a little longer than I’d like. I have a 22-year-old now. My older brother has girls, too. He says, “At about 26, they come back, but from about 18 or 16 on, they just think Dad’s horrible.” There are a lot of women here. I love working with women!
It was great to get to visit this amazing show. I will admit I hadn’t really gotten into the show that much before this visit, but now after visiting the set and seeing the show now I’m a huge fan!
Don’t miss Last Man Standing! It airs on Tuesday nights on ABC. You can learn more info about it at www.abc.com/shows/last-man-standing
